Product Introduction
Benzalkonium Chloride (abbreviated as BKC) is a quaternary ammonium compound that
functions as a cationic surfactant and a broad-spectrum, high-efficiency biocide. In an
aqueous solution, it dissociates into cationic active groups, providing cleansing and bactericidal properties. Its sterilizing power is strong and rapid,
with low toxicity and minimal irritation to the skin and mucous membranes. It works by altering the permeability of the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane,
causing the leakage of cellular contents and obstructing metabolism, thereby achieving a lethal effect. It is particularly effective against Gram-positive bacteria.
It is primarily used for the disinfection of skin, wounds, mucous membranes, and surgical instruments; for sterilization and preservation in wet wipes; and as a preservative in liquid formulations.
Product Applications
Benzalkonium Chloride can be used in various disinfectants, hand sanitizers, laundry detergents, feminine hygiene products, textiles, wet wipes, and other antibacterial formulations. It can also be used as a bactericide and algaecide for industrial water, and as a disinfectant and
antifungal agent for livestock housing, grain warehouses, silkworm nurseries, and for cash crops such as mushrooms and white fungus.
Precautions
- Benzalkonium Chloride should not be usedconcurrently with soap, synthetic detergents, or other anionic cleaning agents.
- Itis incompatible with inorganic salts (e.g., citrates, iodides, nitrates, permanganates, salicylates, zinc sulfate, silver salts, tartrates, and alkaloids).
- It is not suitable for the disinfection ofcystoscopes, ophthalmic instruments, rubber, or leather. Avoid using aluminum containers.
- It is incompatible with aluminum, fluorescein sodium,hydrogen peroxide, kaolin, hydrous lanolin, and some sulfa drugs.
Packaging and Storage
- Packaging:Thisproduct is packaged in 25kg/plastic drum, 50kg/plastic drum, 200kg/plastic drum, and 1000kg/plastic drum (IBC).
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse. The ideal storage temperatureshould not exceed 30°C. Keep away from ignition sources and heat. Packaging must besealed. It should be stored separately from flammable/combustible materials and acids; do not store mixed. The storage area should be equipped with suitable materials to contain spills. Regularly check that all labels are clear and there are no leaks. The shelf life is two years.
